It seems as though South Korea is blowing up these days both fashion wise and apparently musically as well. Idiotape is Seoul’s young and energetic response to the live electronic phenomenon, championed by the likes of Soulwax and Goose. Heavily influenced by the sounds and energy of both rock n roll and electronica, Idiotape are making a name for themselves with appearances at the top music events across Korea and beyond. They categorize their sound as “slamming dance beats powered by electrofied punk riffs,” and I couldn’t have said it any better myself.
The blend of both electronic and rock n roll stylings allow the trio to create a unique musical atmosphere and experience. Many of the tracks start low and musical, build similarly to an electronic track, and then transform into the “hands in the air” bangers that crowds feed off. In an interview, they talked about how ultimately they want audiences to lose themselves in the music. Listen to this set as a whole because you’ll end up falling in love with every track.
