The air is getting warmer, the clothes are getting lighter, and summer is just around the corner. For us here at the West Coast Leak, this means one thing. Festival season is fast approaching and we couldn’t be more excited about it. To kick off the season, members from the Leak will be heading up the West Coast this memorial day weekend to enjoy Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington. So stay tuned to hear all about the amazing weekend that is sure to be Sasquatch. What I have for you today however is the start of a series of posts to preview Electric Forest Festival, which takes place this summer in Rothbury, Michigan. The artists that I have chosen for you today hail from Chicago, Illinois and go by the name, The Coop. If you have never heard of them, you will soon. These talented young musicians are on a one way track to the upper ranks of the jam band/electronic music world. When I first heard The Coop, I was blown away by their ability to easily blend a variety of genres into one solid piece of music. One minute you’ll be listening to a jazzy saxophone riff, and then without skipping a beat fat resonant bass wobbles will take over and transform the entire feel of the song. The way the span the gap between traditional organic sound and computerized production is unparalleled. I don’t know how they do it, but I can tell you I am stoked to see them play live at Electric Forest. Below, I have put a few of my favorite of their tunes, including a brand new single that was just released today. But go by their website if you like what you hear, because you can grab their full debut album for free if you so desire. Check out the tunes below, and enjoy listening.
